Oral presentations

The date, time and place of your presentation will be in the final programme added to the conference website by the end of May as well as in the final programme included in the conference materials.

  • The time allocated for each presentation: 15 minutes and 5 minutes for discussion.
  • PowerPoint presentation is the recommended type.
  • Bring your presentation on a USB memory stick or on a CD Rom to the Speaker Service Centre to load your presentation onto the network. You cannot use your own laptop during your presentation!
  • Hand in your PowerPoint presentation at least 2 hours prior to the start of the session at the Speaker Service Centre. A technician will incorporate your presentation in the computer network which is used for the PowerPoint presentations in the different meeting rooms.

Equipment supplied

  • Computer with PowerPoint for computerised slide presentation
  • Cordless tie microphone (larger lecture halls only, in smaller halls not needed)
  • There will be no ordinary slide projectors, only computerised slide presentation!!

Guidelines on how to prepare your PowerPoint slides

  • Your presentation can be loaded onto the network without problems if it does not exceed 100 MB: larger files can cause problems!
  • PowerPoint versions accepted are PowerPoint MS Office 95, Office 97, Office 2003 and Office XP. HOX PowerPoint slides made using the 2007 version will not work.
  • Use embedded pictures, DO NOT use images linked to other files. Linked pictures will not show up in your presentation! Accepted picture file formats: JPG and GIF
  • Video and audio objects: Windows Media Player 11 and RealPlayer 10v available. Use embedded files, DO NOT use files linked to other files. Linked files will not show up in your presentation!
  • Accepted Fonts are the standard Windows fonts. If you use a non-standard (e.g. scientific symbols) font with your presentation, you should supply this non-standard font separately with your presentation. For a normal projection, the font size 24 is sufficient. Use computer resolution 800x600 or max. 1024x768 and 16 or 24 bits.
  • Choose under a File, Page-setup, On-screen Show, Size 24 x 18 cm landscape. If you use a standard background format, you have to realize that different consecutive presentations might cause some problems. It is better to choose Apply for the background of each single slide than to choose Apply to all.

Always make sure you bring a back-up of your presentation!

Poster presentations

Your poster should be mounted as soon as you arrive at the conference venue, by the lunch break on Monday at the latest. You can remove your poster after lunch break on Friday. The poster areas will be named by research themes.

There will be separate poster sessions held at the poster area and during these sessions authors are expected to be at their posters. The date and time of the poster session is shown in the conference programme. The information of poster sessions and poster area themes will also be in the final programme added to the conference website by the end of May.

In addition to the paper posters we offer a possibility to have your poster presented on the conference webpage and in the virtual poster session during the conference. The practical information about this will be published later.

Recommended poster size is A0 (841×1189) and minimum is A1 (594×841). Also other shapes are possible. Poster boards with a maximum width of 90 cm and a height of 120 cm. Posters will be mounted by tape (pushpins cannot be used).

You should bear in mind a few key points:

  • Posters may be prepared on one sheet (preferred method) or alternatively on several smaller sheets.
  • At the top of your poster indicate title of the presentation and its authors and institutions.
  • Provide descriptive handouts if useful to attendees.
  • Do not mount abstracts on heavy board, thus avoiding hanging problems
  • Do not write or paint on the poster board as background for your poster (someone will be using the poster board after you).

Book of abstracts

Abstracts of all accepted presentations (oral as well as poster) will be published in the Abstract Book of the Conference. Participants were asked to submit an abstract (no more than 250 words), which will be compiled into a volume prior to the conference and made available to all participants. Closing date for submission of abstracts was October 15, 2009.

Special issue

A special issue for full papers will be published in Dendrochronologia, dedicated to the WorldDendro 2010 conference! Dendrochronologia is a journal with 25-year history of publishing tree-ring research from all parts of the world. Dendrochronologia is currently indexed in the Web of Science of Thomson Reuters. The call for full papers will be open prior to conference, from 1st January to 31st May, 2010.

The special issue papers are expected to reveal the breadth and power of tree-ring analysis in understanding tree growth, the environmental variations and the processes behind the observed changes. Papers will illustrate the role of dendrochronology in demonstrating the relevance of tree-ring research in understanding the changing environments in a changing world and even providing predictions about our common future.

We kindly invite you to submit manuscripts of your accepted presentations (oral or poster) referring to the WorldDendro 2010 to Dendrochronologia. The manuscripts will undergo the reviewing and editing process of the journal. Specific instructions for submission of papers to the special issue:

  • proceed to submit your paper
  • to select an article type, please choose “Special Issue WORLDDENDRO”
  • state clearly in your cover letter that you are contributing to WorldDendro-2010 Special Issue
  • proceed to submit using normal routines
